Researchers have created a fabric that allows you to hear your heartbeat.

This material acts like a microphone, converting sound into vibrations and then into electrical signals, much like you can hear them.

All fabrics vibrate in response to sound, but the movement is usually too small to be perceived.

To capture these vibrations, researchers have created flexible fibers. When this fiber is woven into the cloth, It bends with the dough like seaweed on the surface of the sea.

Development includes clothes that act as hearing aids, clothes that answer the phone, and Researchers suggest clothing that tracks the heart and respiratory rate.

They also say that the fibers may have other uses, such as being integrated with spacecraft skin to hear space dust and being embedded in buildings to detect cracks and strains.

Wei Yan, the lead author who helped develop textiles at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States and is now an assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, said: ..

“Textiles open up a wide range of opportunities.

“Wearing acoustic wear allows you to talk through acoustic wear to answer calls and communicate with others.

“In addition, this fabric can inadvertently come into contact with human skin, allowing the wearer to monitor heart and respiratory status in a comfortable, continuous, real-time, and long-term manner.”

The fabric can pick up sounds in the volume range from quiet libraries to busy roads and determine the exact direction of sudden sounds like clapping.

Weaving into the lining of the shirt can detect subtle heartbeat characteristics of the wearer.

Researchers suggest that textiles can also produce sounds that can be detected by other fabrics, such as recordings of spoken words.

Inspired by human hearing, they created soft, durable, comfortable, and sound-detectable cloth “ears.”

The study is published in Nature.
